…A sage his novice student reached a river where they met a young woman. Wary of the current, she asked if they could carry her across. The novice hesitated, but the sage quickly picked her up onto his shoulders, carried her across the water, and put her down on the other bank. She thanked him and departed.

As the two continued on their way, the student was brooding, preoccupied and muttering to himself, shaking his head vigorously as they walked for mile upon mile. Hours later and unable to hold his silence, he spoke out. "Honoured Master, your spiritual training teaches us to avoid any contact with women, but you picked that one up on your shoulders and carried her!"

"Student," the sage replied, "I set her down on the other side of the river, are you are still carrying her?"
